Ladies Day 2009

Ladies’ Day 2009

Follow the Feathers!

October fourth began a bit cloudy and misty but the Model A cars arrived at Wal-Mart in West Boylston confident that the sun would shine on Ladies’ Day. It did.  Mary Hines gave each lady there a feather boa for their 1920’s costume.  The feathers left a trail all along the route.

We split into two groups for ease of travel with Ellen Costello driving the lead car in the first contingent and Cherie Sherman leading the second.   There were 13 A’s and two modern cars in all with Ann & Bill Lynch, Joan & Harold Smith, Katherine Fultun & Frank Washburn, Michelle & Nick Caporelli, Barbara & Bob Costello, Mary Sheridan, Dave Boulay, Gloria & Al Schofield, Cherie & Dick Sherman, Ellen & Keith Costello, Angie & Frank Miller, Mary & Jim Hines, Julie & Jim Hines, Jr. and their two children: Meghan and Jimmy, Debbie and Ben Sinkis, and Stephanie & John Carnazza on the tour.

Travelling back roads through Sterling and Lancaster, we stopped at the Oak Ridge Farm Stand and dropped a few feathers and then went on to The Bootlegger Restaurant in Lunenburg where our cars parked in front matched the theme of the restaurant.  Here we dined in style with a delicious luncheon and left a few more feathers before several men and Julie Hines pushed Jim Hines, Jr.’s  ’29 Sport Coupe around the parking lot until the engine finally turned over. (The battery was dead.)

Then we drove though downtown Fitchburg for a visit to the Fitchburg Art Museum where they were featuring snapshots celebrating life, “Point Click Shoot.”  Many pictures reminded us of our childhood and of times before any of us could remember.  As we were leaving, one of the museum guides said, “There are feathers all over the place!”

Finally, on to Captain Bob’s on Rt. 31 for ice cream.  It was a delightful end to the day sitting in the sun, looking at colorful leaves and enjoying our ice cream.  We dropped a few more feathers here and left for home—a lovely day.
